When do Adults Need to See an Orthodontist?

If you are an adult who is wondering when the right time is to see an orthodontist, then the time is probably right. Something probably made you question if your alignment is correct, and even thinking about this is reason enough to see our San Pedro orthodontist to make sure everything is okay.

In some instances, it can be quite obvious when you need to see an orthodontist. If your teeth have become severely crooked, then you should clearly see an orthodontist. If you have difficulty biting, chewing, or speaking, then that is another good indication that it may be time to see an orthodontist. If you teeth have rotated or started to protrude, then this again is reason enough. But some instances may not be as completely obvious.

Many patients do not realize that displaying symptoms of bruxism is a valid reason for seeing an orthodontist. Bruxism is the condition that causes you to grind or clench your teeth as you sleep. Likewise, if your jaw clicks or seems to shift in position, that may be a good reason as well.

It is important to remember that proper tooth alignment plays a big role in proper oral hygiene. Teeth that are crooked have a tendency to trap food particles between them. Trapped food particles are a big reason for plaque buildup and tooth decay. It can be hard to properly brush and floss with misaligned teeth. That is why you should visit an orthodontist and at least receive a consultation if you are concerned about any issue affecting your alignment.
