A full mouth reconstruction involves the replacement or restoration of all of the teeth in the upper and lower jaw. A full mouth reconstruction usually requires a combination of several different procedures in order to achieve the desired result. This procedure can become necessary after a serious injury was suffered. Sometimes a full mouth reconstruction is needed because of extremely poor oral hygiene.
Theoretically, any dental procedure can be a part of a full mouth reconstruction. Each patient will be evaluated individually, and the course of treatment will usually vary on a patient-by-patient basis. For example, take somebody who was in an accident that knocked all of the teeth from their bottom row and broke all of the teeth in their upper row at the gumline. Dental implants can be used by our
North Hollywood cosmetic dentist to replace the teeth on the bottom row. Usually around 4-6 implants are needed to support a fixed bridge for replacing the entire bottom row of teeth. The teeth on the top row will likely first need to have a crown lengthening procedure done to reveal more of the tooth. Once that is done, crowns can be used to restore the top teeth. Some other treatments that can be used in a full mouth reconstruction are veneers, dental bonding, dental fillings, bridges, teeth whitening, gum contouring, and orthodontics.
