What are Veneers Made of?

There are several materials that can be used to make veneers, the most common of these being porcelain. These are formed into very thin shells that are secured to the front surface of your teeth to help you to achieve a whiter and more attractive smile.

Strong and durable, these shells can cover a wide range of cosmetic flaws with your teeth. They are made to resemble the natural look of teeth. These thin sheets of porcelain are designed to resist stains while protecting your teeth during your normal activities.

Even though they are very thin, these shells do take up some space. Because of this, your dentist will need to shave the fronts of your teeth to remove much of the surface enamel in order for these shells to fit flat and secure against your teeth. Your teeth may need to be reshaped for proper fit as well.

Even though the enamel will be removed from your teeth, they will be protected by the porcelain of these shells. You may not even notice that they are there. They are easy to care for and maintain for many years of enjoyment before any replacement.
