TMJ, or temporomandibular joint disorder, is currently suffered by ten million individuals throughout the country. While experts are unsure of the exact reason why TMJ occurs, we do know some causes. For example, physical damage can cause the joints to shift out of place. Orthodontic issues are another common cause.

Crooked and misaligned teeth can result in many issues, orally and otherwise. If the top and bottom teeth do not match up properly, it could lead to bruxism, or chronic clenching and grinding. This unnecessary added pressure can affect the jaw joints, resulting in TMJ.
