Braces for Adults
Tags:
Several decades ago, braces were almost exclusively for teenagers. For many people today, the mention of orthodontics creates images of fresh young faces with mouths full of wires. Of course, teens still make up a large percentage of our orthodontic patients, but braces for adults is a trend unlikely to disappear.
Our adult orthodontic patients are often people who put off braces for numerous reasons when they were younger. As adults, they see the value of a straight and beautiful smile. Many of our adult patients tell our braces dentist in Northridge the newer and less noticeable types of braces influenced their decision to seek orthodontic care. There are several types of braces available for adults. Our dentist can help you decide which of these is the best option for your teeth.
• WIRED BRACES- These are the traditional stainless-steel set of brackets and wires which come to mind when at the mention of the word braces. Fortunately, the most up-to-date version of these braces is much smaller and less noticeable than their predecessors. Wire braces work by our dentist attaching small brackets to your teeth and running wires through them. The wires connect to elastic bands. These bands are how the dentist adjust the tension of the braces on your teeth.
• CLEAR OR CERAMIC BRACES- One of the most popular types of braces we offer, the clear or ceramic braces work the same way as the wired braces. The difference between these and the metal braces is the material used in the clear braces is difficult to notice. This is also the reason for the popularity of clear braces.
• LINGUAL BRACES- This type of braces is metal, but instead of mounting on the front of your teeth, lingual braces attach to the back of your teeth inside of your mouth. They work the same way the other braces work.
• INVISALIGN- While Invisalign is not technically in the same grouping as braces, they serve the same purpose. Invisalign is a system of clear plastic aligning trays. These trays are customized to fit over your top and bottom teeth. Then they gently guide teeth into the correct position over time.
